Virgin Mobile strengthens grip on retail outlets

06/11/2000

Virgin Mobile - the world's largest virtual network operator - has strengthened its high street presence, by signing new deals with Somerfield, Kwik Save, Co-op, Asda, Iceland and John Lewis; bringing the total number of retail outlets selling its mobile phones to 3,540 stores nationwide.

The new partners are in addition to the two deals signed with JS Sainsbury and WH Smith last month. Virgin Mobile currently has in excess of 450,000 customers and helped joint venture partner, One 2 One pip Orange's network sales in the third quarter this year. It aims to have one million customers by Spring 2001.

Comments Steven Day, corporate affairs director at Virgin Mobile: "Virgin Mobile is taking the High Street by storm - our new retail partners represent one of the fastest High Street sales expansions for any mobile phone company in history. Virgin Mobile is now ready to take a significant chunk of this Christmas's mobile market."

Virgin Mobile handsets are now available on the High Street at Virgin Megastores, Our Price, V.SHOP, JS Sainsbury, WH Smith, Somerfield, Kwik Save, John Lewis, Co-op, Asda and Iceland or direct from Virgin Mobile's website: www.virgin.com/mobile or its customer centre on: 0845 6000 600.
