Accessibility Statement
Virgin Mobile recognise that users with disabilities can find some websites difficult or even impossible to use because of the way that they have been designed. We are therefore working hard to ensure that this corporate website follows criteria set out by W3C. W3C/WAI (World Wide Web Consortium/Web Accessibility Initiative) produces a set of three accessibility guidelines recognized as international standards.
We have endeavoured to accommodate many different types of disability in constructing this site, and will continue to respond to changes in guidelines and development in assistive technologies.
Some of the user needs we are striving to meet:
- Visual Impairment and colour blindness
- Hearing impaired
- Motor impaired (e.g. users who may have difficulty controlling a mouse)
- Cognitive disabilities (e.g. users who may have difficulties interpreting visual information)
What we have done and why:
In constructing the site, we have applied all the appropriate WAI P1 and P2 criteria and a number of the P3 criteria. Some of these criteria though essential, are more ‘behind the scenes’. We have detailed the criteria that directly enhance the user experience below.
- We’ve ensured all images and graphics have meaningful explanatory ‘alt’ tags so voice browsers and screen readers will read a more helpful explanation of the image
- We’ve provided the option for voice browser and screen reader users to skip navigation, so the user has the option to go straight to the content on every new page
- We’ve tagged tables so they can be read by voice browsers and screen readers down to the cell level, so all information in a table can be accessed
- We’ve used relative font sizes so a visually impaired user can change the font size easily. To do this go to View and then Text Size and select the text size you require
Site development
Over the coming months Virgin Mobile will continue to improve the accessibility of this site and will be adding more accessible features. We will continue to closely monitor developments and changes in accessibility guidelines and general website best practice.
