HMS ASTUTE LOWERED INTO THE WATER
Barrow-in-Furness, United Kingdom. – On Friday 15th June after completing her final safety checks, HMS Astute was lowered into the water at BAE Systems Submarine Solutions.
The shiplifts’ 108 winches gently lowered the boat into Devonshire Dock over a period of three hours. Once in the water, divers were used to check the underneath of the submarine and disconnect cooling hoses used on land.
HMS Astute will now begin three months of dockside testing, before leaving Barrow for sea trials next year.
