Every song describes moments, emotions and people. In the same way, the United Colors of Benetton collection for summer 2010 also brings together myriad small stories to be discovered, like the tracks on a CD. For women, outerwear remains the absolute key player for the spring, together with shirts which often become dresses. Trousers, available as Bermuda shorts, plays an important role both in women’s and men’s wardrobes. The whole experience is like a piece of music which is pleasantly unforgettable, just like one of those summer tunes that are part of our holidays. The main colour? Rhapsody in blue, of course.
Womenswear collection
THE WAY YOU MAKE ME FEEL - The well known garment,
the jacket, takes centre stage, with dresses, shirts, sweaters,
skirts and trousers as its co-stars.
New textiles (on a cotton base) & patterns revive drapery.
Reversible fabrics with patterns on one side & plain on the
other create a special “double” effect. Denim is
understated. Plain and yarn-dyed poplin is used for a wide range of
shirts. Cotton chenille and plush viscose create the jersey
collection. Sweaters and outerwear are based around the tricot in
medium-lightweight cotton yarns.
The waist & shoulders are the focus of silhouette, whilst the
trousers are full length.
The colours are white, blue, pale blue and cherry red.
REMEMBER THE TIME - Escape to the countryside and
rediscover the essence of life. Linen and cotton are used to
maximum effect in a variety of textures: wrinkled muslin, fine
muslin, jersey, silk blends, voile, poplin and creponne.
The main focus for this look is the dress and shirt accompanied
with shorts and mini skirts. Viscose/linen jersey and cotton gauze
make it easy to experiment with sheer elements and layering.
The knitwear is interpreted with fine and soft yarns such as
cotton, viscose and light cashmere. Floral prints are popular on
yarn-dyed and open weave fabrics.
Draped over the figure these garment shapes, give a relaxed, soft
and floaty look.
White, grape red, blue, beige and grey are the colours of the
theme.
LIBERIAN GIRL - A journey to discover ancient
traditions, intense colours and evocative scents.
The silky look is interpreted by the cotton and viscose, which are
also blended to create an array of fabrics, ranging from creponne
to muslin, from jersey to poplin and a ribbon knit used for the
tricot.
Drapes and ruffles on dresses with ethnic and floral patterns,
jodhpurs, kaftans, rushed tops and sarong effects. Layers of light
silk jersey and modal alternatives with waistcoats and mini jumpers
in pure linen jersey.
The knitwear emphasises open, large stitches and special shapes are
found particularly in the dresses.
The soft fabrics reveal the silhouette of the body.
The palette includes white, brown, purple, green, yellow and
orange.
YOU ROCK MY WORLD - Fans follow music legends on an imaginary tour. Cotton is the unquestioned leader, used for t-shirts printed with graphics which strongly refer to the Eighties. The yarn-dyed shirts take on an ironically romantic look when coordinated with items in lived-in denim. Cotton is also dyed indigo, like the boiler suit with bare shoulders. The looks are a true fit, comfortable and emphasize the figure without softening it too much. Black, grey and blue are the colours proposed for this theme.
BLACK & WHITE - Timeless glamour thanks to the
colour combination par excellence: black and white for a perfect
Marlene Dietrich of the twenty-first century.
Stretch cotton satin, cotton/viscose, stretch poplin, georgette and
viscose jersey are the ingredients which create gala evening
jackets with several shapes and lengths, slim trousers, shirts rich
in elegant details, cocktail dresses and sweaters with soft
drapes.
The image is enhanced by items of clothing in which the waistline
is the overall fulcrum, set off by black, white and pink.

Menswear collection
JACKO - New York, or any large city in the world,
after a busy day at work. The look? A pullover, a t-shirt and a
pair of comfortable trousers, and, above all, outerwear!
A mix of classic and sports fabrics. Double cotton for trench
coats, blends of cotton/wool or cotton/linen suitable for jacket
and trouser suits. Check patterns, windowpane checks, Prince of
Wales or houndstooth checks on cotton, often stretch, for jackets,
trousers and shirts. “Muslin” nylon or techno fibres
designed instead for jackets with a sporty look or very lightweight
blousons. The knitwear is heavy gauge yet light in weight, like
ribbon knit. For men who prefer a decidedly slim fit
appearance.
A range of greys and browns/beige with touches of red and pink for
this theme.
ANOTHER PART OF ME - Attention is focused on one part of the body: the legs, and Bermuda shorts are a key item. The fabrics used have many faces, yet one single source: cotton. Denim, gabardine, light tricot or canvas subjected to treatments, wear and dyes, appear exclusively as short trousers. The volumes are form-fitting with balance. This is a theme in pale blue, dark blue, beige and pink.
MAN IN THE MIRROR - The same image, but from different angles. This is what happens in this short story. The fabrics, technical with windproof and tear-resistant properties, are designed for blousons which pair up with lightweight nylon presented in contrasting colours or with yarn-dyed linen for jackets with a highly sporty look. The cotton jersey takes on a more well-defined look for themed graphics printed on t-shirts or strong colours used on polo shirts. The denim is also cut ad hoc for the occasion. The items in cotton tricot are accessorised with zips and micro mesh to give a techno look. The shapes are comfortable. Each article is embellished with stitching using several needles, strategic zips, press studs and special finishes. White, electric blue, lime green, red, indigo blue and steel grey are the colours proposed for the theme.
BAD- Bad…is just a word. Our man is midway between
“active” and “aggressive”. Cotton with a
strong appearance, such as denim, gabardine and canvas, is used for
jackets and blousons with many accessories or trousers with
pockets, whether long or Bermuda. Linen, cotton or a blend of both
appear in the ranges of shirts. A new yarn with a
“rough” look, a cotton crepe, is woven for highly
coloured and low-pile pullovers with a basic look. Most of the
items have undergone washes and treatments for a lived-in, wrinkled
and worn appearance. A slim look for items to be worn under the
blousons and other outerwear, yet particularly comfortable for
trousers.
Blue, periwinkle, red, pale blue and grey are the colours of the
theme.

Accessories Collection
United Colors of Benetton accessories brighten the summer of
2010 with a thousand coloured lights. Every material used in the
collection appears to have something extra thanks to the skilled
manufacture, finishes and treatments. The leather is antiqued and
with studs while suede and bright colours are used for accessories
with a sportier look. The large and medium-sized bags have a simple
design yet stand out due to the details and other parts such as
fastenings and handles.
The shapes are often squared particularly the shopper model, with
or without shoulder strap. Bright colours such as geranium red,
meadow green or sunny yellow, find new strength in canvas bags.
Eco-leather undergoes such a radical transformation that it is
confused with real leather thanks to its softness. The large
holdalls are to continue to play a key role in the spring.
Items for men also contribute to adding new ideas for spring and
summer 2010. Leather is used with canvas or nylon for modern totes
or handy, restyled messenger bags.
Small leather items, headscarves, lightweight scarves and footwear
are in line with the remaining ideas in the collection, coherently
following the season’s themes.

Children's Collection
One for all, all for one.
Just one big collection to meet the tastes of children all over the world.
For spring days, a polka dot-smothered waterproof jacket in
delicate colours is just what budding Audrey Hepburns want, while
he’s drawn to a small-check short jacket with a big
embroidered logo. They both love cotton shirts. Hers have frills
and flounces to create a delicately romantic look, while he prefers
the striped shirts – perhaps with short sleeves. Special
attention is placed on a range of jeans with lots of different
models and washes, both for girls and boys. T-shirts decorated with
graphic designs and sequinned appliqués are a must for
little girls. Little boys can choose colourful tops with big
printed motifs.
Then there are the special occasions. For her, little patterned or
plain-coloured cotton dresses are essential, provided they have
many flounces, ruches and gathers. He, on the other hand, has a
more rebellious spirit and prefers casual outfits like check
Bermudas teamed with polo or rugby shirts.
