Carlton Communications Plc Significant Milestones 1983 - 2000
1983 Carlton becomes a publicly quoted company, listed on the London Stock Exchange.
1987 Acquisition of 20% of Central Television
1988 Acquisition of Technicolor.
Carlton becomes listed on NASDAQ.
1989 Acquisition of UEI plc (including Quantel and Solid State Logic).
1990 Carlton Television awarded the Channel 3 Licence
1993 Carlton Television starts broadcasting.
Acquisition of 18% of ITN.
1994 Acquisition of remaining 80% of Central Television.
1996 Acquisition of SelecTV cable channel renamed Carlton Select.
Acquisition of Cinema Media, renamed Carlton Screen Advertising.
Launch of Carlton Food Network.

1997 Award of Digital Terrestrial Television Licences to British Digital Broadcasting (now called ONdigital), 50% owned by Carlton. Acquisition of Rank Film Distributors (740 classic British Films). Acquisition of the Rohauer Film Collection (over 600 films). Acquisition of Televicine, Spanish videocassette production company.
1998 Technicolor expansion:
Investment to treble DVD capacity at Technicolor in California to 15m units per year.
Acquired remaining 50% of Technicolor Euphon in Italy.
Opened new videocassette plant in Denmark.
Acquisition of 50% of plant in Mexico.
Acquisition of Nimbus CD.
Launch of Carlton Online (now Carlton Interactive)
Launch of Ondigital
1999 Acquisition of the ITC film and television library.
Acquisition of Planet 24 production company.
Acquisition of a 7.5% stake in Quiero, the successful applicant for the DTT licence in Spain.
Technicolor expands into Canada with the acquisition of VTR Video and acquires the other 50% of the plant in Mexico bringing it under full ownership of Technicolor.
Technicolor invests in the development of digital cinema.
Hamdon comes under full Carlton ownership and is renamed Carlton America.
Acquisition of 20% stake in PeopleBank, the online job agency.
Launch of Ask Jeeves, the question and answer service, in the UK with a 25% stake.
Announcement of planned merger with United News & Media plc which did not go ahead.
Carlton and TF1 form @lliance, a joint venture to operate online and internet businesses in Europe.
Solid State Logic is sold for £45.3m.
2000 Carlton Interactive forms partnerships with WHSmith, Sainsbury's, First Call and a joint venture with WWW.COM.
