Supermarine Aviation Works, Limited was purchased by Hubert Scott-Paine in 1916.
However, it is R.J. Mitchell, the company’s Chief Designer who is more closely associated with the Supermarine name. Under his leadership, Supermarine built three success Schneider Trophy winning aircraft and the legendary Spitfire.
