  • May 2002: Total foreign shareholding limit of 49.5% abolished
    Individual foreign shareholding limit of 15% remains in place
  • November 1999: BAE SYSTEMS formed with the merger between British Aerospace and Marconi Electronic Systems
  • April 1998: Limit on foreign holding raised to 49.5%
  • August 1989: Limit on foreign holding raised to 29.5%
  • May 1985: UK Government sells its shares but keeps £1 'golden share'
  • January 1981: British Aerospace privatised, with a foreign share holding limit of 15%. UK Govt holds 48.43%
  • April 1977: British Aerospace formed as a nationalised corporation
