Enterprise development

Significant positive socio-economic impacts will be achieved through sourcing products and services locally, via sub-contracts with local companies. We are actively engaged with our partners in a campaign to encourage community members and nascent entrepreneurs to start or grow companies. Our focus is on providing catering, cleaning construction, and transportation or production services to QMM and other local busisesses.

The local economy of Fort-Dauphin is very undeveloped. We are working in partnership to develop a positive and enabling business environment for small and medium sized enterprises.

Emerging enterprises need technical and managerial skills to win contracts with other companies – locally, regionally or nationally. Over dependence on QMM as the sole source of contracts or employment should be avoided. When the mine has closed, people’s livelihoods need to survive.

Dynamic and skilled suppliers will improve the investment climate for future potential investors in Madagascar, particularly those attracted to the region the new port.

Enterprises include:

  • Local business advisory services
  • Training resources for entrepreneurs and small businesses
  • Guidance, assessment and accreditation of emerging small businesses, with particular reference to safety and quality
  • Education and alignment with accepted business procedures and quality standards
  • Initiatives to encourage other local businesses to purchase locally
  • Promoting accessible and adapted products through banks
