We negotiated our temporary occupation of the deposit of Mandena with the local community in return for an integrated compensation programme (ICP). The ICP brings together the environmental and social objectives of our environmental management plan. We will identify additional livelihood and environmental protection measures in the 2007 livelihood baseline assessment. Our negotiations with the community will be underpinned by a DINA – a traditional Malagasy social contract designed to manage potential sources of social conflict.
