"Madagascar is a model for further projects which are likely to following Africa and the developing world," says Rio Tinto chairman Paul Skinner. "The project is illustrating Rio Tinto's capability to apply a different development approach to that of the traditional engineering driven, data intensive effort. The engineering focus has given way to more involvement with other stakeholders, notably NGOs, and a stepped up local community development effort."
