                          Transfer of Treasury Shares                          
Spectris plc announces that on 19 October 2009, the following ordinary shares
have been transferred from treasury stock for the purposes of employee share
option allotments under the Spectris 1996 Executive Share Plan:
2,051 shares at 513.1832 pence per share
3,000 shares at 525 pence per share
Following the above transfer, the total number of Spectris plc ordinary shares
in issue (excluding the total of 9,560,844 ordinary shares now held in
treasury) is 115,444,279.
