                          Transfer of Treasury Shares                          
Spectris plc announces that on 21 October 2009, the following ordinary shares
were transferred from treasury stock for the purposes of employee share option
allotments under Spectris Executive Share Plans:
1,163 shares at 589 pence per share under the Spectris 1999 Executive Share
Option Scheme
837 shares at 589 pence per share under the 1996 Executive Share Plan
Following the above transfer, the total number of Spectris plc ordinary shares
in issue (excluding the total of 9,558,844 ordinary shares now held in
treasury) is 115,446,279.
